May 22, 2013
Marvin Heidman, a volunteer with the EGSR in northwest Iowa, was among those recently honored by the Iowa Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) when the Northwest Iowa ESGR (Area 1) was named Area of the Year. The ESGR provides education, consultation, and, if necessary, mediation for employers of guard and reserve employees. The "Area of the Year" award recognizes support in Plymouth, Sioux, Cherokee, Woodbury, O'Brien, Lyon and Osceola counties. Eleven volunteers in Area 1 supported more than 500 soldiers by educating them regarding their rights and obligations under the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA). The volunteers also work to gain and maintain employer support for guard and reserve service by recognizing outstanding support, increasing awareness of the law, etc.
