The Sheldon Chamber and Development Corporation promotes the area by developing an atmosphere where people want to visit, live and conduct business. The Chamber works to help each of the member businesses achieve more and succeed. Recent economic development efforts have been rewarded by seeing the fruition of several endeavors. In 2017 construction was completed on the $5.3million Crossroads Pavilion Events Center. In 2018 construction Prairie Trail Village, a 38-unit multi-family housing complex was completed.
The Sanford Sheldon Medical Center (Hospital) clinics and long-term care facility take excellent care of those living in Sheldon and the surrounding communities. Affiliated with Sanford Health in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, the Sanford Sheldon Center has access to a multitude of specialists and medical technology.

There’s plenty to do around town in Sheldon. A 40-acre community park in Sheldon Crossing is in the preliminary planning phase which will include an extensive trail development, neighborhood park, shelter houses, fishing piers, access to aquatic play. The Lifelong Learning and Recreation Center is located on the campus of Northwest Community College. It provides wellness and recreation facilities and equipment, as well as space for trainings, conventions, conferences, and trade shows. Take a swim at the outdoor aquatic center or community indoor pool – a shared business venture with Holiday Inn. Culture and the arts are also at play in Sheldon, the Jay Shelp Community Theatre provides a wide variety of plays and musicals to participate in or enjoy every summer for over 50 years.
