Sarah I. Wheelock joined the firm in 2009, after working for five years at a large law firm in Minneapolis, Minnesota as an associate in the Indian Law group. She has represented Indian tribes, tribal organizations and entities doing business with tribes in matters involving federal trust litigation, sovereignty, economic development, finance and project lending, contracts and contractual disputes, tribal governance, utilities and energy development, taxation, labor, tribal gaming, the Indian Child Welfare Act and natural resource protection. She taught Federal Indian Law as an adjunct professor at Hamline University’s law school during Fall 2008.
Sarah has worked on tribally related financings involving several Indian tribes throughout the United States, including syndicated and non-syndicated bank loans and the offer and sale of indentured debt securities. Sarah’s pro bono practice includes ICWA and other family law matters and environmental litigation.
Sarah has spoken at a number of professional events covering topics from tribal gaming to congressional plenary power and from diversity in the legal profession to the need to test federal Indian law on state bar exams.
